Set Fire To The Rain

This blog post is going to be about Adele's song "Set Fire To The Rain" from her newest album "21".

The album is brilliant. The song choices are amazing; portraying a lot of country/blues influence as well as a neo soul feel. Adele's voice has never sounded better and. I've been listening to it non stop for the past couple days.

One of my favorite songs on the album is "Set Fire To The Rain". I love Adele's range and the lyrics in the song. If you haven't heard it yet, please YouTube a live performance of it.

I'm going to copy and paste the lyrics below cause I still don't quite understand why the words are "set fire to the rain".

What I take from the majority of the song is Adele singing about a past relationship that started out with her feeling it was too good to be true.

But as it goes on, it leans more towards her being mistreated, lied too and crushed by this relationship. During the chorus when she says "it burned while I cried cause I heard it screaming out your name", I have a feeling the metaphor for the burning rain could be the end of her relationship and the rain symbolizes her sadness and how it hurts when she remembers or thinks of her past relationship.

I need to listen to the song more to get a better feeling of what she wants to portray. There's a lot of emotion in her singing which is what I love most about her.

Feel free to comment on your thoughts!!

I let it fall, my heart,
And as it fell, you rose to claim it,
It was dark and I was over,
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me,
My hands, they're strong, but my knees were far too weak,
To stand in your arms without falling to your feet,

But there's a side to you that I never knew, never knew,
All the things you'd say, they were never true, never true,
And the games you'd play, you would always win, always win,

But I set fire to the rain,
Watched it pour as I touched your face,
Well, it burned while I cried,
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name,

When laying with you I could stay there,
Close my eyes, feel you here forever,
You and me together, nothing gets better,

'Cause there's a side to you that I never knew, never knew,
All the things you'd say, they were never true, never true,
And the games you'd play, you would always win, always win,

But I set fire to the rain,
Watched it pour as I touched your face,
Well, it burned while I cried,
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name

I set fire to the rain,
And I threw us into the flames,
Well, It felt something died,
'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time.

Sometimes I wake up by the door,
That heart you caught must be waiting for ya,
Even now when we're already over,
I can't help myself from looking for ya.

I set fire to the rain,
Watched it pour as I touch your face,
Well, it burned while I cried,
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name

I set fire to the rain,
And I threw us into the flames,
Well, it felt something died,
'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time, oh,
Oh, no,

Let it burn, oh,
Let it burn,
Let it burn

Smattery of pictures

So while contemplating what to post next on this blog, my dear friend Mary suggested a do a "smattery of pictures" from this past year that I've lived in Vegas.

Mary... You are a GENIUS.

Now by definition, a smattery is a handful or a small amount.

Is 8 pictures still considered a smattery?

I think I found my new favorite word. Smattery.

So this first picture is of the most important thing that has happened to me while living down here in Vegas. And that would be meeting Jeff :)

This is his dog Casey. She is one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. She's about 3 years old, a lab boxer mix, and the biggest attention whore.

Next, we have a huge change that has improved my every day life. I've been wearing glasses since the 3rd. It wasn't until this past summer that I FINALLY decided to get contacts. I wish I had done it sooner!

Now, I know my mother REALLY doesn't like what this next photo has to show but it has been something I've wanted to get for a few years. A TONGUE PIERCING!

Time for the CUTEST picture ever. These are our two babies, Hailey (0n the left) and Kayla (on the right). They are miniature doberman pinschers that we got from a friend. Jeff first surprised me with Hailey and then we decided to get Kayla as well so that Hailey would be happier :)

This was a really bizzare day. We woke up one morning a few days after Christmas to snow. Yes, snow. In Las Vegas. Jeff, who has been a Las Vegas resident for 16 years, said that he has never seen it snow like it did on this day.

Around the second of January, Jeff wanted to get a vacation apartment in San Diego. We were there at least one weekend a month last year. We absolutely love it down there. So we found ourselves a great apartment in the downtown area and within a few blocks of the water. This summer is going to be epic :) (The beach picture is of Pacific Beach)

Last but not least, I decided to go blonde. And I mean BLONDE. I am really happy with it and so far most people I know also say it looks good :)

Well, that's all I have for the time being :) I'll keep snapping pictures and uploading them as I see fit. Hope you enjoyed these!

Smattery.

Trying to get back into the groove of this

So... It's been almost a year and a half since I last updated this blog. I noticed my last post was about 2 weeks before I made a decision that completely altered my life.

On November 29th, 2010. I moved into an apartment in Las Vegas, NV. Yeah, big change for the Washington State resident of 12 years. I made the move with my roommate at the time Jen. She was moving down for work and asked me to come down there with her.

Let's do a quick recap of the story... Here I was, age 20, had a good job, great friends, family close by and pretty comfortable while living in Tacoma. Then, come on day, this opportunity to completely leave my comofort zone and basically start life with a fresh slate, came up. Now, this seemed like to amazing to be true because prior to this, I was mentioning wanting to move away and start over, multiple times to my good friends Adam and Mary. So I basically couldn't say no.

Yes, it was scary to leave my stable job (especially considering the economy and that Vegas had the highest unemployment rate in the country). Yes, it was terrifying to move to a completely different state where I only knew one other soul. Yes, it was difficult to adjust to a new climate and a new culture. But most importantly; YES, I have no regrets in moving what so ever.

I won't go too far into detail regarding the past year I've been living in Sin City. But I will gladly cover some big points.

  • I did manage to find a job! It took me 4 months to get one but I am very grateful for having it.
  • For personal disagreements, I am no longer friends with Jen. Still, I am grateful for knowing her because without her, I wouldn't be where or WHO I am today.
  • I have been in a relationship with my boyfriend Jeff for a year now and I couldn't be happier.
  • I am starting school in April for Nursing. I have a feeling it is a career choice that won't only be financially stablizing for the future but I feel it will make me greatly content with my life and my work.

I have grown and learned so much by moving down here. Not only have I learned so much about myself but also about people in general. I would like to say that I'm still pretty much the same guy that I was in WA, only better. This change in my life has been one of the best things to happen to me and I wouldn't take it back for anything.

I will definitely be posting more on this so stay tuned! (If anyone is still keeping an eye on my blog :P)
